Projects

Plans include investing in a packing facility for preparing salads for sale, where salads will be washed and packaged ready for retail. The investment will increase the product’s value-added processing and improve supply chain efficiency.

The project includes a necessary packing hall of 488.3 m², equipment for the hall comprising the machinery needed for sales preparation. EU funding of 25% will be sought for the project, as well as interest rate support for a loan representing 50% of the estimated costs.

Evolving Production

Our goal is to produce the highest quality products while taking environmental friendliness and energy efficiency into account in production. We strive for cost-effective solutions in all our operations.

Continuous Development and Responsible Choices

We continuously develop our cultivation methods and production energy efficiency. In our development work, we utilize the latest technology in the industry whenever possible. Some of our greenhouses use LED lighting, which helps reduce energy consumption and lower production costs. In the early 2000s, lettuce moved from the ground to automatically moving cultivation beds. This innovation improved production efficiency and enhanced working ergonomics.

Environmental Friendliness Guides Our Energy Production Choices

We produce all the heat needed for production ourselves using solid domestic fuels. We have three heating plants, the newest of which, commissioned in late 2024, produces energy primarily with wood chips. In 2018, our company invested in a 600 m³ hot water storage tank, which enables heat recovery and balances heat production. This allows even better use of various renewable heat fractions such as grain husks or sawdust.

Since the beginning of 2021, all the electricity we purchase is 100% environmentally friendly biopower. We also participate in the disturbance reserve market that stabilizes electricity grids.

Domestic Production

We produce domestic vegetables for Finnish tables and provide employment for dozens of Finns. It is therefore natural for us to take domestic sourcing into account in all our operations, starting from procurement. This way, we can offer high-quality and clean vegetables in the future as well.

Continuous Monitoring and Reporting

Our high-quality products are environmentally friendly, clean, and have excellent shelf life. We take environmental well-being into account in production: we favor biological pest control and use only the necessary amount of fertilizer and irrigation water, which means nutrient loading is virtually non-existent. We grow all our products in natural peat soil and irrigate with clean groundwater. This ensures tasty and crisp salads and herbs year-round.

We favor biological control methods in cultivation, meaning we combat plant diseases and pests using nature’s own means. Unwanted insects sometimes find their way into the greenhouses and hinder growth. In such cases, we use predatory insects that eat or kill the pest. For example, we control aphids on lettuce with parasitic wasps, which are natural enemies of aphids.

Certified Production

Our production is certified according to the IP SIGILL Vegetables and IP Working Conditions systems. IP SIGILL Vegetables is a certification system developed for Nordic conditions that focuses on ensuring product safety. We monitor product quality from seed to the point when they leave for customers. You can therefore confidently purchase safely produced local food. Our company was selected as the first greenhouse to receive the Domestic Vegetables Association’s Quality Producer of the Year award in 1994. We use the Purely Domestic label on our packaging.
